Meet our Scholars

Irem Tekinel Caliskan, 2021/2022 Jean Monnet Scholar (Technology, Media and Telecommunications Law LLM) "As a Jean Monnet Scholar, I chose to study at the Queen Mary University of London and had one of the best experiences as an LLM student in London. I completed my post-graduate studies under the Technology Media and Telecommunications Law programme and enjoyed the rich and diverse content of modules provided by respected academics and met with wonderful colleagues and expanded my network. Throughout this journey, I’ve always felt thankful for the Jean Monnet Scholarship, which is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for a Turkish citizen wishing to pursue a master’s degree in Europe and the UK. Besides its generous financial support, the Jean Monnet Scholarship makes you a member of a widespread network of professionals and students, who share and exchange common prospects and knowledge. I would suggest a Jean Monnet Scholarship candidate get the bottom of core values, key facts and figures on the structure and history of the EU and its relationship dynamics with countries around the world but most importantly with Türkiye. As the focus of the project points out, all candidates will be expected to contribute to the harmonisation process between the EU and Türkiye with the learning outcome they achieve through their post-graduate studies."

Beyza Yanikoglu, 2021/2022 Jean Monnet Scholar (Criminal Justice LLM) "The Jean Monnet scholarship made me take a further step closer to my dreams and reminded me one more time that I should never give up hoping that the best is about to come. I was on the waiting list for the scholarship programme but at the very last minute, I was granted the scholarship. So never stop pursuing your dreams and keep your hopes always high no matter what. I am studying “Criminal Justice” at QMUL on the advice of one of my professors in Turkey. I liked what the programme offered me: being allowed to create my own way and own voice in academia. I believe that it will help me a lot in my future career, and I have been planning to continue with PhD studies again in the UK. I also have been seeking different job opportunities in international organisations before starting my PhD. We’ll see what the future brings.  The best part of living in London is that the city is accessible to everyone. It offers a lot of things for all people, especially students to enjoy: parks, museums, gardens, musicals, libraries, theatre shows… When you walk down the streets of the city, I assure you that you will be feeling like wandering in an open-air museum with all the landmarks and buildings. So even if you come alone to this city like me, you wouldn’t find any time to get bored because you will be living in a living city that never stops and I do encourage you to live here if possible and wish all of you the best of luck!"
