The School of Mathematical Sciences at QMUL is home to a thriving community of postgraduate research students currently numbering approximately 90 students. 87% of our research is rated world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2014).

Research Areas

Research in the School of Mathematical Sciences covers a broad range of key subjects in pure and applied mathematics, and is consolidated into research groups reflecting the School’s key strengths.

Entry requirements

Candidates for the PhD programmes in Mathematics or Statistics should normally have a first or good upper second-class honours BSc in mathematics or statistics, or a more advanced qualification such as MSci, MMath, or MSc.
