Arts and Culture

Queen Mary is a major contributor to London’s diverse artistic and cultural communities, and has built strong relationships with its local, national and international publics through the arts. Our cultural activities are underpinned by a commitment to social justice which has been central to the university’s identity since its founding.

Our Arts and Culture Portfolio

  • Providing space and facilities for developing, performing and exhibiting artistic work in our teaching spaces and historic venues. These include specialist drama and film studios, a music centre, media arts and technology studios and the People’s Palace.
  • Organising writing retreats to create the space for artists and people working in the cultural sectors to share together and experiment with the different kinds of writing that their work requires.
  • Supporting artists and those working in the arts with the Artist Research Fellowship scheme, composers-in-residence, artists-in-residence and writers-in-residence schemes.
