Professor Andrew Livingston, Vice-Principal (Research and Innovation) at Queen Mary University of London, comments on the UK government confirming the UK's participation in the world’s largest research collaboration programme, Horizon Europe.
“Today’s news of Horizon Europe association is fantastic and much-needed, both for the higher education sector and the UK as a whole. As many know, scientific partnerships and innovation ecosystems across different countries are a vital part of the dynamic creation and use of knowledge. With a formal EU-UK collaboration renewed, we have a better environment in which we can conduct research and innovation and make new discoveries to treat diseases, tackle emerging global threats, and benefit the world together.
“We will be building on today’s news by working closely with colleagues from around Europe, as we strengthen valuable partnerships that have been established for many years and of course build new and exciting relationships.
“Queen Mary has been fortunate to conduct remarkable collaborative research because of the UK’s participation in the previous EU research and innovation programmes, which recognise knowledge has no borders. We welcome the UK association to Horizon Europe that offers a brighter future to carry out high quality collaborative research, enables easier movement, shared resources and ease of communication with our European colleagues.”
