Drama at QMUL is committed to social justice, and to the inclusion, visibility and audibility of marginal identities, histories and communities. We share the QMUL mission ‘to create a truly inclusive environment […] dedicated to the public good’. We investigate experimental approaches to theatre and performance and examine the role of theatre in culture now and in the past. Our work is underpinned by a commitment to openness, advocacy, interdisciplinarity, and integrity in scholarship, practice, and collaboration.
In the two most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF) assessments, QMUL Drama was the top-ranked Drama Department in the UK for the overall quality of our research. In REF 2014, 69% of the Drama Department’s research was judged ‘world-leading’ and 93% was ‘internationally excellent’ or better; the quality of both our research impact and our research environment was evaluated as 100% ‘world-leading’. In REF 2021, we were ranked first in the country for overall research quality and received the highest available result for impact (ranked joint first).
