Working with local business

Queen Mary works with its local business, start-up and entrepreneurial communities to drive the exchange of knowledge between the education and commercial/industrial sectors. Together we aim to create meaningful impact to both sectors from the research and teaching happening at the University, shape the future work of Queen Mary, and develop our student employability.

We have a number of projects, services and initiatives that support this interaction which you can find details of below.

Queen Mary Careers and Enterprise schemes

The Careers and Enterprise team here at Queen Mary run a range of different programmes which develops work experience and skills for our students whilst addressing a need identified by a local business or charity. These schemes open at different times throughout the year, to enable activities during the academic year and holiday periods. If you are interested in being involved, we'd recommend checking out their associated pages to find the forthcoming scheme dates.

The QInterns service supports London businesses by providing paid internships for Queen Mary undergraduate and postrgraduate students within their business/industry. Hosts are able to work closely with students throughout the internship, benefiting from the most up-to-date learning in the student’s field of study. These internships supply creative ideas and labour for businesses, while providing relevant work based experience for the interns

Charity Micro-Internships is Queen Mary’s award-winning work experience programme. Students take on a project for the host charity that the charity might not currently have the time or capacity to think about or focus on themselves whilst developing the skill-set of the student involved. Students volunteer between 35-70 hours on the piece of work over a period of weeks 2-8 weeks.

The Student Consultancy Project (SCP) provides a multidiciplinary team of students the opportunity to work on a mini-consultancy project within a business, charity, or social enterprise to help solve problems they face. Past projects have involved researching and analysing information, looking into improvements around marketing and business development, product developmenet, and reviewing policies and processes
