There are a range of opportunities for students to volunteer in the local Tower Hamlets community and across London. All opportunities are provided by voluntary, charitable and not-for-profit organisations and there are plenty of roles to suit different interests and time commitments. Students can find and apply for opportunities directly via the Students’ Union’s website.
Students can also join student-led Volunteering Groups to volunteer alongside other Queen Mary students and help run activities in the local community.

Community Foundation is a sports leadership and volunteering programme based in the Students' Union which trains student volunteers as coaches, referees and sports leaders. Students are then partnered with a number of local schools, sports clubs and sporting organisations to help deliver sport locally, resulting in more opportunities for our local communities to be active. In return for community outreach, our leaders benefit from a bespoke rewards package that includes certificates, clothing and funded qualifications.Find out more about the programmes available and how to become a partner organisation on the Community Foundation website.
Students can get involved in supporting student-led RAG (Raise and Give) activity and help raise thousands of pounds for charity each year.
There are hundreds of student-led clubs and societies for Queen Mary students to choose from: from academic to faith groups, campaigning to music groups, and political to social groups. Many groups partner with local organisations to volunteer their time in their area of interest.
You can search clubs and societies to find out more about what they do and how to connect with them.
