Marketing is the bridge between an organisation’s products and its target audience – and it can make or break a business.
From influencer marketing and the rise of AI tools to the move towards flexible working, the world of marketing and management is changing. This evolution means there are lots of roles for managers and marketers to pick from in market research, PR and brand consultancy. And we’ll help you find where you fit.
Our course combines business management with marketing theory and practice. You’ll focus on the principles of marketing and management before unpicking more specialised areas. These include advertising, consumer psychology and market analytics. Campus is buzzing with conversations about our latest research on social justice, good governance and sustainability too.
Our proximity to the city means you’ll be in the right place for internships and networking events. We also love taking your learning outside of the classroom. Our academics do this by using their connections to arrange visits to companies in the city. Previous partners have included Microsoft and Facebook.
If you select the 'Year in Industry' route, you’ll have the opportunity to spend the third year of your degree on an industry placement with an employer.
We give you the tools you need to confidently step into the world of work. The teaching team also has an initiative to help you build your personal brand, so you know how to present yourself to employers and secure your dream role.
The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) has awarded a Graduate Gateway against this programme. The modules you study as part of the degree give exemptions towards the CIM Certificate and CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing. To complete the CIM qualifications, you must then take one or two CIM modules (for the certificate and diploma respectively), after graduation.
If you are taking an Integrated Foundation Year, this will take place before Year 1. If you choose the Year in Industry option, your degree will take four years to complete.
Please note that all modules are subject to change.
Any second year student wishing to choose the Marketing Dissertation module in their third year, must study Research Methodology in the second year.
Third year students take four compulsory modules and four optional modules. Students who choose to take the optional dissertation module must choose four compulsory modules and two optional modules, plus the dissertation module.
Apply for this degree with any of the following options. Take care to use the correct UCAS code - it may not be possible to change your selection later.
International students can apply for our Marketing and Management BSc with an Integrated Foundation Year. The foundation year prepares you for the rest of the programme and is taught on campus by Queen Mary lecturers.
This option will allow you to spend the third year of your degree on an industry placement with an employer, in a role relevant to your field of study. After the placement, you will return to university to complete your final year of study, meaning your degree programme will last four years in total.
"This course challenges me to look at businesses from new perspectives, and opens my mind to different possibilities of how businesses might be run in the future. I’ve been given the opportunity to expand my CV by taking part in the SBM Consult programme and working as a student ambassador. These experiences were fun and helped me connect to other SBM students, while developing my professional abilities."
Teaching and research are based on three pillars: governance; social justice and sustainability; as well as the UN Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME).
