West Smithfield campus is for medicine and dentistry students and includes St Bartholomew's hospital (Barts) and the West Smithfield Medical Library. It is home to postgraduate and research students as well as our cardiovascular, cancer, epidemiology and public health research facilities.
Barts Hospital has a long and illustrious history. The medical school has trained students since the eighteenth century and has always been at the forefront of medical education. Our students’ learning is supported by access to world-class facilities, both for teaching and independent study including lecture theatres, seminar rooms and IT lab.
At West Smithfield, we have a purpose-built Clinical and Communications Skills Centre, which is one of the most advanced of its kind (and the first to be developed in the UK). In 2005, Queen Mary, University of London and City University were jointly awarded a prestigious Centre of Excellence for Teaching and Learning Award for clinical and communication skills, the only London medical school to receive such an award.
The West Smithfield campus is also home to the Pathology Museum. This historic building houses a collection of over 5,000 pathological specimens built up over two centuries at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital and Medical College.
