FAQs

Frequently asked questions about the ABATED study

How does this technology benefit patients from ethnic minority groups?

Research shows that some ethnic groups and individuals from poorer areas are diagnosed with dementia later and less well. We want to test our artificial intelligence (AI) technology on patients from East London memory clinics as this represents an ethnically diverse and under-served population. If our technology is accurate, and if it can be used in the clinical setting in the future, then it can help to provide a fair and accurate diagnosis across diverse groups.

Will artificial intelligence technology replace doctors in the memory clinics?

We hope that our technology will be used by doctors, alongside other assessment tools used in the memory clinic and clinical decision-making, to help reach a more accurate diagnosis quickly.

Will participants receive individual results?

All participant information will be anonymous and analysed collectively, and we will not feedback any individual results from this study. We need to manage participant records in specific ways for the research to be reliable. This means that we will not be able to let participants see or change the data we hold about them.

Will participants’ data be kept confidential?

We will keep all information about participants safe and secure. All participant data will be anonymous and will be assigned a code number.

Are there any medical interventions required as part of the ABATED study?

The ABATED study is an observational study and is not an interventional study. This means that participating in this study does not affect individuals' clinical care in any way. We will collect information for future evaluation which may ultimately help to inform future clinical decision-making.

Do you have resources for the ABATED study in other languages?

Please see the 'Study documents' tab' in the Our study page where we have ABATED study materials translated in Bengali.
