William Harvey Heart Centre

The William Harvey Heart Centre opened on 7 July 2011 by Sir William Castell LVO and is dedicated to tackling the growing burden of heart disease and stroke worldwide. The Centre represents an investment of £25 million in cardiovascular research. This centre specialises in being able to bring together laboratory work with practical engagement. The Centre's Clinical Trials Unit can call on a range of clinical experts from both QM and the Barts and The London NHS Trust, to test out the findings of lab research, and the WHRI's links with GP practices in east London provide a diverse group of patients to participate in its clinical trials. This land was one of the last remaining bombsites in Central London and was sold by the Medical College of St Bartholomew's Hospital Trust to a firm of property developers, with the condition that they built the outside of the William Harvey Heart Centre as well as flats for commercial sale.
