ADHOC trial FAQs
The trial is for adults with asthma. You have to be aged 18 or over to take part and have been diagnosed with asthma.
For you to take part, your GP practice needs to be participating in the trial. If you have asthma, they will send you a text message with a link to a survey. You may also see an advertising poster about the study in your GP’s waiting room. If you’re not sure, you can ask at your practice or contact the AD HOC Team (details below).
If you decide to take part in the trial you may be offered an intervention designed to help people manage their asthma symptoms. Half of the people will be offered the intervention and half won’t. This is because we want to find out if it works better than the standard care you would get from your GP without the intervention. There is a small monetary compensation for taking part.
It will take up a small amount of your time if you decide to take part. You will need to attend a 30-45 minute consultation with a nurse or pharmacist at your GP practice, which has to be in person. You will receive a brief phone call from a member of the study team every 3 months over the following 12 months (if you agree to that) and you will be asked to complete an online questionnaire after 12 months. Half the people taking part won’t be offered the intervention, but they will be given the option to engage with it after the 12 months of the trial is over.
The AD HOC trial is being run by a team of researchers from Queen Mary University of London, working alongside the GP practices who decide to take part.
The AD HOC trial is sponsored by the Joint Research Management Office at Queen Mary University of London and has been approved by the NHS Health Research Authority and Health and Care Research Wales (HCRW) (reference: 25/NE/0006, IRAS: 349517).
If you are eligible to take part in the AD HOC trial either your GP practice or the ADHOC team at Queen Mary should contact you within 1-2 months. If you haven’t heard anything you can contact the AD HOC team – details below.
If you don’t want to take part any more that is fine. Please contact the AD HOC team – details below.
