Connecting with our global alumni community
Since the beginning of the year, two high-level University delegations have undertaken international travel in India and South East Asia, presenting welcome opportunities to meet with Queen Mary alumni living in those locations.
India
At the end of January, Professor Colin Bailey CBE, President and Principal, led a delegation to India. While there, he hosted receptions for alumni based in New Delhi and Mumbai, strengthening Queen Mary’s ties with the global community.

As part of the trip, Professor Bailey also joined over 500 leaders from universities, governments and industry across the globe at the 2025 QS India Summit for Higher Education in Goa to discuss the most pressing issues and opportunities in education.
At the summit, he participated in an expert panel session on “India as the Skills Capital of the World: Preparing Students for Corporate Success”. Speaking alongside other experts, Professor Bailey highlighted the importance of equipping graduates with both technical expertise and soft skills, and the critical and distinct role that Queen Mary plays in promoting social mobility and building particular skills that ensure that students, such as those who are the first in their family to attend university, can thrive, both while studying and beyond.

South East Asia
In February, Professor Helen Bailey, Vice-Principal International, led a Queen Mary delegation to Southeast Asia to forge new academic, government and industry collaborations, and strengthen partnerships that drive innovation, workforce development and economic growth in the region.
While there, Professor Bailey hosted receptions for alumni based in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, enabling the Queen Mary delegation to reconnect with former students who form part of a growing network of over 5,700 alumni across Southeast Asia, reflecting Queen Mary’s commitment to a region from which we have been welcoming students for over 50 years.
