The International Arbitration Award Writing module provides the requisite knowledge of and practice in all the requirement of writing a final, reasoned and enforceable Award in an international commercial dispute. At the successful completion of this module (and the diploma), candidates will be eligible to progress onto the Peer Interview in order to become a Fellow member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
The AWE runs twice a year, in Spring and Autumn. We also offer a preparation workshop in Spring which can be attended regardless of when the exam is taken. LLM Students are strongly advised not to take the October Award Writing Exam at the beginning of their studies. We would therefore advise that you register for the Summer session which will be advertised in due course.

The module also provides an excellent opportunity for students to revise questions relating to arbitration awards, their legal regulation and their effect.
On 3 September students will be sent a reading list as well as a set of reading materials focusing on arbitration awards, their characteristics, functions and drafting.
On 18 September students will be given the first set of materials relating to arbitration cases; these will normally cover all information but the hearing. Candidates will be required to start working on the awards by drafting summary of facts, summary of parties’ positions, claims, etc. Two weeks after students will be sent a second set of materials (typically the information relating to the hearing) and they will have twenty-four (24) hours to complete their award. Awards should be no less than 5,000 words and presented in a format that it is suitable for international arbitration award.

It is compulsory for students undertaking the Postgraduate Diploma International Dispute Resolution or Postgraduate Diploma International Commercial Arbitration (Distance Learning) at Queen Mary, University of London. It is also open to LLM students at Queen Mary as well as outside participants.
Please note: LLM Students due to join the LLM programme in September 2012 should enrol on the Summer 2013 International Arbitration Award Writing Exam. More information on that session will be made available on the website in 2013.
External applicants and Queen Mary LLM students should book online via the Queen Mary e-shop. Current QM Diploma students do not need to book as attendance is included in their programme.
