QMUL and White and Case LLP launch sixth global arbitration survey

Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) today announced details of the sixth International Arbitration Survey, sponsored by global law firm White and Case LLP.

The survey, which builds on previous reports, seeks to present a comprehensive picture of the perceptions and experiences of the global arbitration community. This year’s survey focuses particularly on improvements and innovations in international arbitration in recent years.

Previous reports are highly regarded internationally by practitioners, academics and expert commentators within and outside the arbitration sector. The survey will revisit a number of the themes of the 2010 report to allow trend analysis in the intervening years.

Professor Loukas Mistelis, Director of the School of International Arbitration (SIA) at QMUL, said:

“The 2015 survey builds on the experience of the QMUL School of International Arbitration as an agenda-setter and research leader in the field. All stakeholders are invited to share their perspectives and experiences - including private practitioners, in-house counsel, consultants, and academics. This year we will focus particularly on improvements and innovations within a community that has faced significant change during the last five years.”

White & Case partner Dipen Sabharwal said:

“We are pleased to be involved once more in the cutting-edge, empirical research carried out by the QMUL School of International Arbitration. Arbitration is now the dispute resolution method of choice for international business. It has to keep evolving to meet the needs of its wide community of users. We look forward to hearing those users’ views about whether recent innovations are addressing their needs and how international arbitration can be improved further.”

Rutger Metsch, White & Case Research Fellow in International Arbitration, will lead the project.

The survey will be open from 11 March 2015 until 8 May 2015, after which the focus will move to the qualitative, interview phase. The results of the survey will be launched in October 2015.

More information, and details of how to access the survey, is available on www.arbitration.qmul.ac.uk.
