Stem Cell Culture at the Liquid-Liquid Interface for Regenerative Medicine

The project will investigate the culture of Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) at liquid-liquid interfaces for their long term expansion in 3D bioreactors. The formation of stabilised liquid-liquid interfaces will be studied by interfacial rheology, SEM, AFM and XPS. The influence of parameters such as concentration, pH and surfactant type on the stabilisation process will be studied. The long term expansion of MSCs will be characterised using DNA quantification assays and the expression of stem cell marks characterised by qPCR and flow cytometry. The design of a new generation of 3D bioreactor will be explored.
