The Gautrot Lab: Biointerfaces for Life Sciences

The reconstruction of artificial micro-environment for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine requires the design of novel biomaterials with controlled chemistry, biochemisty, mechanical properties and geometry, at different length scales.

In addition, these platforms should be dynamic in order to allow remodelling events that are necessary to processes such as wound healing, angiogenesis and tissue regeneration.

Cell behaviours such as spreading, motility, proliferation, death and differentiation are tightly regulated by the cell micro-environment. Biochemical properties but also its geometric and mechanical properties of this micro-environment control cell phenotype. For regenerative medicine applications, novel biomaterials and patterning tools are required, with controlled chemistry and biochemistry, as well as mechanical and geometric properties at different length scales.
