About us
The Barts Metabolism Network is a multidisciplinary research initiative at Queen Mary University of London. Funded by Barts charity, we bring together scientists and clinicians to explore the complexities of obesity and metabolic disease. Our work spans fundamental biology and clinical research, aiming to advance our understanding of metabolic disease and develop innovative therapeutic solutions.
Our research
Our network focuses on key areas of metabolism research, including:
- Metabolic Disease Mechanisms: Investigating obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and steatotic liver disease.
- Mitochondrial Function & Cellular Metabolism: Understanding how energy production and metabolic pathways impact health and ageing
- Nutrient Sensing and Signalling: Exploring how cells respond to metabolic changes and their role in disease progression
- Metabolism and Cancer: Unravelling the metabolic alterations driving tumour growth and resistance to therapies.
Our researchers collaborate across disciplines, integrating epigenetics, and bioinformatics to uncover new insights into metabolic regulation and therapeutic targets.
