In her PhD research, Fatema explores the everyday consumption practices of a postcolonial diaspora, who are domiciled in their ex-colonizer country. Through her research, she aims to shed light on the complex interplay between their colonial past, diasporic present, and everyday consumption. Her research aims to understand how their past influences their perceived realities and how these narrated realities are expressed through their consumption. Through ethnographic fieldwork, her research aims to capture the evolving nature of postcolonial diasporic experiences and its influence on their everyday consumption practices.

Biography

Fatema holds a Master's degree in Marketing & Business Analysis from the University of Edinburgh, where she graduated with distinction. In her dissertation, she employed a mixed-method approach, combining thematic analysis of interview data with statistical findings to provide rich, contextual insights. Her undergraduate degree in Business and Management, with a focus on marketing, also earned her summa cum laude honours.

Over the years, she has gathered valuable industry experience through various key roles at renowned organizations like Robi Axiata Limited, EDINA at the University of Edinburgh, and Save the Children in Bangladesh. During her tenure at Robi Axiata Limited, she had received the Star Performer Award twice (Q2 2021 and Q2 2022) for her instrumental contributions in achieving company milestones.

She aims to bring together her professional experience and academic insights into her research. Her goal is to deliver original work that holds both practical and theoretical significance.
