Mapping Place – Exploring Placemaking as Social Reproductive Labor in the Context of Climate Change and Migration
My research at SBM will focus on the everyday placemaking of Latin American migrants as social reproductive labor and understanding the effect that people’s experiences with climate change and migration have on the ways that they settle in a new place. My proposed research methods will take a mixed methods approach, drawing on qualitative interviewing as well as participatory textile-making as research.

I am a PhD candidate at the School of Business and Management. I hold a BA in Environmental Health from the University of Costa Rica and an MSc in Environmental Justice from the University of Michigan. My work for the past 5 years has focused on understanding the myriad ways that individuals and communities are affected by climate change. Since 2021, I have been interested in the role of art as a necessary voice in the climate space, especially in navigating the complicated emotions that arise in relation to climate change and action.
