4th March
Women's International Week: Unconventional career pathways for Black-Heritage Students

Join us on Monday 4th March 2024 from 12-1pm as we hear from four Black-heritage panelists who have taken ‘alternative’ journeys in their careers. This is part of our amazing and diverse programme of events to celebrate International Women's Week.
You will hear from:
- Mylene Sylvestre, Publishing Director at Guardian News & Media and co-Founder of the Women of Colour Global Network
- Elizabeth Ojo, the founder of Coco Chin, a business focused on delivering high quality plant-based snack foods that use nutritious ingredients from West Africa.

Women & NB peoples’ Circle: An International Women's Day Cafe in partnership with Careers & Enterprise
3.30 - 5pm | Senior Common Room, Arts 2 Floor 4
The Women’s Cafe invites back a former Queen Mary alum, Setareh Bozorgy, for a second Wellbeing Session! This session will be held during reading week, and we invite students to attend during your break to focus on journalling, poetry and our own creativities. This session will be part of Careers & Enterprises’ International Women’s Day schedule, and we hope to see our Women’s Cafe community members - whether old or new - there!
As always, we will provide a range of refreshments, including fruits, cakes and drinks – all free of charge and in beautiful surroundings!

Queen Mary Meetup for Women Entrepreneurs

Inspiring Women in Research

We have invited a panel of inspiring women with research backgrounds talk about their career journeys so far and how they have overcome challenges to start professional careers and reach career success. Our female speakers are from a range of backgrounds and professions including academia and STEM roles in a range of sectors. Our speakers will be sharing advice and insights on managing the day to day, and strategies for surviving and thriving in traditionally male-dominated sectors. We will also get an insight into how to juggle the demands of career and family.

Careers and Enterprise are delighted to be partnering with Burns Sheehan on a special recording of The Start-Up Diaries. Hosted by Burns Sheehan’s very own Chris McGowan and Livvie Holt, The Start-Up Diaries podcast brings you insightful discussions with forward thinking Founders & Business Leaders growing some of the most exciting tech start-ups & scale-ups in the UK.
Designed especially for a live audience of Queen Mary students, join us as we interview two female founders on their journey in business.
Attending this event will give you:
- Exposure to not one, but two in-depth interviews with start-up founders
- Understand their journey, lessons learned and challenges they have faced

Women in Industry

To mark International Women’s Week, the Careers and Enterprise team are hosting a virtual Women in Industry panel, an event which will bring together women across the industries of STEM, finance, and consulting in an hour-long discussion. Our inspiring panelists would like to share the achievements and challenges they’ve experienced in their career, giving insights into their roles and sectors.
The event will start with a 45 minute guided discussion, followed by a 15 minute Q&A where we welcome any attendees to ask any questions they may have to our panel members.
