Global opportunities

Study and work abroad with Queen Mary to develop your skills and enhance your career prospects.

Why take part?

Spending a short period, semester or year abroad during your studies is an enriching and exciting way to broaden your experience and perspective.

You can study abroad through an exchange, and/or work abroad.

We encourage students to consider the multiple ways in which a period abroad can enhance their employability and career prospects. Before and after a period abroad, Careers & Enterprise meets and works with students helping them to understand and capitalise on their new skills learned abroad.

What skills do you develop?

  • Intercultural awareness
  • Language skills
  • Knowledge of other countries
  • Confidence
  • Tolerance
  • Self-awareness
  • Sociability
  • Problem-solving
  • Decisiveness

  • Curiosity

64% of employers aim to recruit individuals with international experience, as they have acquired diverse knowledge bases, transversal skills and intercultural competencies. An international experience can help you to develop new skills, independence, self-confidence and the ability to adapt to new circumstances.

What opportunities are there?

There are several opportunities for students at Queen Mary who are interested in taking some time abroad during their degrees, from summer schools to semester and year-long exchanges. We encourage all of our students to develop a global perspective and each year they travel as far afield as Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australasia.

We hope that you consider applying for one of the QMUL opportunities and look forward to hearing from you soon!
