Dr Germán Darío Flórez Acero
Germán Darío Flórez Acero, (Intellectual Property Law LLM, 2011) coordinates the activities of the Colombia Chapter. He tells us more about the Chapter.
Why did you decide to get involved with the Colombia Chapter?
I consider this is a great opportunity to expand the Queen Mary network in Colombia and also it will contribute to the continuing successful impact of CCLS in the current international commercial law debate.
What do you think the importance of the CCLS Colombia Chapter is?
Colombia has a large alumni community. This has triggered an interesting influence in certain areas such as law firms, the academy and also public institutions where former QM students have a crucial role. Therefore, the CCLS Colombia Chapter will condense these efforts and I have no doubt it will potentialise the participation of Colombia in the global international commercial law community.
What activities have taken place over the years?
The Colombian QM alumni network has organised several events in recent years. We have had academic events, networking sessions, cocktails and British parties, among others. We also participate actively in RedBrit which is the network of all associations of British alumni in Colombia. Currently I am the President.
Has anything memorable taken place through the Colombia activities?
The foundation of the QM alumni network took place in the Bogotá Commerce Club with more than 35 members and the installation was made by Professor Uma Suthersanen. It happened in 2015.
How do you hope the Chapter will benefit alumni who join?
It will be a chance for the alumni members in Colombia to be more visible. It also will help Colombia to have the inputs of the current CCLS debates in all commercial law areas such as international commercial law, commercial and investment arbitration, intellectual property and legal tech, etc. The alumni will have the opportunity to meet other alumni that allow them to work together on common topics as well as even obtain job opportunities.
