Gerardo Guzman Espino has been involved in the establishment of the first social bond for a school in Peru.
In the latest ranking (2020-2021) released by the prestigious legal publications The Legal 500 and LEADERS LEAGUE, Gerardo Guzman Espino (Law and Economics LLM, 2015) has been recognised as recommended lawyer in the areas of Restructuring & Bankruptcy, Capital Markets, Banking & Finance and Corporate M&A.
Gerardo’s background includes, among other things, recent promotion to Partner of BBGS Saco-Vertiz & Landerer Abogados (BBGS Peru), a top Latin-American law firm with offices in Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. At BBGS he is Head of Restructuring & Bankruptcy. Gerardo studied a master's degree in Law and Economics at Queen Mary University of London in 2015, and during 2016 and 2017 he had working experiences in top international law firms, such as Kirkland & Ellis LLP (New York office) and in Galicia Abogados (Mexico office).
He recently made an important contribution as a lead counsel to one of the most symbolic transactions executed in Peru: the first issuing of a Social Bond for a primary and secondary school in Peru (US$300’000,000.00). He also oversaw a complex Liability Management transaction which this education entity carried out with the purpose of refinancing previous bonds programs and consolidating all its bond debt in one Program Bond.
Gerardo has published some articles which have been released in one of the most important financial newspapers in Peru, Diario Gestion. One such article, published in June 2020, sought to provide alternatives to the restructuring of companies affected by COVID-19. Gerardo has also been interviewed in Peruvian local television (April, 2020) in order to give his opinion regarding the refinancing of debts during the quarantine.
