Portrait of Janet Nikova

I started my legal career journey as an undergraduate LLB English and European Law student at Queen Mary and completed my LLM in Intellectual Property Law at CCLS.

Queen Mary has had an incredible impact on my career not just through my studies but also through the variety of activities I had the chance to get involved in. Working with start-ups as a student advisor in qLegal first sparked my interest in working in the dynamic tech sector. Through the CCLS mentorship scheme, I learned about all the varied career paths previous students had taken. This led me to join BenevolentAI, a company applying artificial intelligence in drug discovery and qualify as a solicitor through the new Solicitor Qualifying Exams.

Qualifying in-house and working with scientists and machine learning engineers was not something I would have imagined when I first started studying law, but my time at Queen Mary really helped me to find the right career path and be open to new opportunities.

I am now looking forward to returning to qLegal to support their programmes and share my experience with current students.
