Barasha Borthakur (Law PhD, 2024) said: “I am truly honoured to share that I have been shortlisted as a Finalist in the “Society, Policy & Law” category at the India UK Achievers Honours 2025 - a prestigious recognition celebrating the remarkable achievements of Indians in the UK.

This initiative, in partnership with the British Council, the UK Government, and the UK Higher Education sector, highlights the contributions of global changemakers strengthening India-UK relations and shaping critical global discourse. As part of this recognition, I have been invited to UK Parliament, the Palace of Westminster yesterday (12th February 2025). This is not just a personal milestone but a testament to the power of education and cross-border collaboration in shaping policy, governance, and societal impact.

I am extremely grateful for everyone who have been supportive in this journey. I would like to thank my PhD supervisors Uma Suthersanen and Duncan Matthews without whom the journey in the UK education would not be possible. My parents, and partner Jake who have always been there with all their support. Lastly, I am happy to hear all praises about my workplace, University of Southampton, the first Russel Group University to open their campus in India last year. Thank you National Indian Students and Alumni Union UK for providing such platform and all the impact your efforts have created. Sanam Arora, Jyoti Mangal, Aishwarya Mishra.”

Following the nominations all finalists were interviewed by the organisers at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms at Holborn, London.
