Six LLM students are to represent Queen Mary University of London in the Price Media Law Moot Court programme in 2014.
The Price Media Law Moot Court Programme is an annual competition that began in 2008 to generate and encourage interest in Media Law among students. Participating students explore current legal issues and develop advocacy skills in arguing a case before an international bench of judges.
QML students Fiona Forbes, Omolola Agbaje-Williams, Mahesh Athipatla, Rishabh Jogani, Olugbemi Oduntan and Alexander Willingham will take part in the moot competition. They will be coached by Gavin Sutter and Robin Callender Smith who are both experts in the field and lecturers of Media Law at Queen Mary.
The international rounds of the competition will be held at the University of Oxford in April 2014. For the first round of the competition, the team had to develop and write extensive submissions regarding their given case scenario. Next, the team will participate in the oral rounds at Oxford University demonstrating their understanding of free speech principles, media law and public international law.
LLM in Media Law student, Hannah Hastings, said: "Currently, the team are practicing their oral submissions and the results are looking very promising. The team are confident, they have well informed and clear arguments, and they demonstrate the ability to think on their feet.
