According to the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF), 87% of the School of Law’s research was rated 3* (internationally renowned) or 4* (world leading).

We’re particularly pleased with this result, as our internal analysis of the REF data shows that it places us seventh among all the law schools in the UK for the quality of our research outputs. We are also proud to be fourth in the country for Research Power, a measure of our quality and staff numbers.
Overall, the School of Law at Queen Mary University of London was placed 15 for research in the UK, according to the Times Higher Education. These achievements would not be possible without the dedicated work of our academic staff and everyone who works alongside them.

This result enhances our reputation and strengthens our funding so we can continue to provide the very best support for our researchers to flourish”
The REF is the system for assessing the quality of research in higher education institutions (HEIs). It was first conducted in 2014 and replaced the previous Research Assessment Exercise (RAE).
