A new Chinese company, DeepSeek, has attracted the attention of some investors for its potential to shape the next generation of AI tools, who are shifting their investments from long standing industry giant Nvidia.

In his blog, Dr Daniele D’Alvia, Lecturer in Banking and Finance Law at Queen Mary University of London, outlines the causes behind this change in investment, and how this advance the technology we use: “The technology developed by companies such as DeepSeek and Nvidia is what powers voice assistants, recommendation systems on streaming platforms, self-driving car software and even medical breakthroughs. As investment flows into AI, it means that innovation could become more advanced and accessible – much faster than we previously expected.”

Dr D’Alvia’s goes on to explore the wider trends of AI investment, and argues the need for clear regulation that promotes growth whilst preventing financial instability.
