Peter Cameron holds the chair in Energy and Climate Law. A graduate of the University of Edinburgh, he is one of the world’s leading authorities on energy investment law. He is a barrister (England & Wales), and acts as an arbitrator in international cases.
Peter is author of a dozen books, including ‘International Energy Investment Law: the Pursuit of Stability’ (2nd edition, 2021, Oxford University Press), more than 100 articles, and is currently working on ‘International Arbitration and the Energy Transition’ for Hart. He has held research grants from DfID/FCDO and the European Commission.
Peter has been a Professor at the Robert Schuman Centre at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, and Professor and Director at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (Dundee, UK). Peter has held visiting or part-time posts at the Universities of Oxford, Stanford, Singapore and Madrid (Autónoma). He is an honorary professorial fellow at Edinburgh University and a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
Peter has worked extensively with the World Bank and was seconded to the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, travelling extensively in the region. As an arbitrator, Peter has sat at various international dispute settlement bodies, including ICSID and ICC. He has also testified as an expert witness before SIAC, ICC, LCIA and SCC and in several national courts. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
