Profile

Dr Roman Khodykin is Visiting Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London and a Partner in the London office of Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP.

Roman is ranked in legal directories for International Arbitration in the UK, such as the Best Lawyers, the Chambers, and Legal500, including being named as the 2020 "Lawyer of the Year" for International Arbitration by The Best Lawyers.

Roman is a Solicitor Advocate (Higher Courts (Civil Advocacy)) of the Senior Courts of England & Wales.

He is also a Russian qualified lawyer and advocate (admitted to the Moscow Bar). He has practiced in the Russian Federation since 1999 and, until 2012 appeared in courts all over the country.

He has the rights of audience before the AIFC Court (Kazakhstan).

Between 2005 and 2012 Roman was a Senior Fellow, later Associate Professor in Private International Law (aka Conflict of Laws), Civil Procedure and International Trade Law at Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO).

Between 2017 and 2023 Roman was a visiting professor in the Centre for Commercial Law at Queen Mary University of London where he taught Commercial Conflict of Laws.  He has also lectured at Clare College, Cambridge University, l’Université Paris-Saclay (Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin) and Exeter University.

In 2015-2018 Roman was an alternative member of the ICC Court of International Arbitration in Paris. He is regularly appointed as arbitrator in international arbitrations, including under the LCIA Rules and the SCC Rules. 

He is also a member of the editorial board at The International Journal of Arbitration, Mediation and Disputes Management.
