Roy Goode Scholarship Fund

Will you help talented prospective students?

We invite you to help talented prospective students to benefit from the opportunities that a year studying at CCLS brings, preparing them to become some of the very best young lawyers. Even a relatively modest contribution can help make a difference between a student being able to study in London or Paris, or not.

What do scholarships mean to our students?

Currently, 46 students (around 5% of CCLS postgraduate students in a typical year) receive scholarship funding from £2,000 to a full fee waiver, to help pay for their education, which can be the difference between a pipedream and a reality. Some of this funding is through alumni support, and it is hoped that the wider CCLS community will help facilitate more students to benefit from one of the most prestigious commercial law masters programmes in the world, and in so doing, provide them with the skills to go back to their own countries to make a difference.

Sadly, we have to turn down 57 (91%) of prospective eligible applicants due to a lack of funding.

CCLS scholarships are critical because they provide the funding for students to apply so that they do not have an unmanageable financial burden on them whilst they are studying away from home. These students can help shape the future of commercial law, as their studies equip them to be the future leaders and innovators in law, commerce and government.

Our plan for the Roy Goode Scholarships

CCLS currently offers partial scholarships but would like to offer more full scholarships. CCLS aspires to offer five more students from overseas a full fee waiver so that they can benefit from a postgraduate education, ready for the start of the September 2025 intake. To do this, we need to raise £125,000.

Costs

The annual tuition fee to study a full time LLM at CCLS in 2025/26 is £19,800 for home students and £31,500 for international students. This will allow the scholar to focus on raising money for the cost of spending a year living in London or Paris. If students have further financial difficulties, they may also qualify for support under our new bursary scheme.

Why Now?

The need for students from developing countries to study a postgraduate course has never been higher. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the adverse impact it has had on the global economy, it has become abruptly and unexpectedly more difficult for students to raise the necessary funds from work, family, and friends to enable them to come to CCLS.
