Aditi Malik (Laws LLM, Class of 2025)

"This scholarship has been transformative. As an international student, the costs of living and studying in London are a significant challenge, and this support has provided the financial stability I needed to focus fully on my studies. It has given me a newfound confidence to consider my future plans, including the possibility of further study, maybe even a PhD. This scholarship has not only relieved a huge financial burden but has also reinforced my belief in the path I’m taking, knowing that others believe in my potential and my commitment to making a difference."

Tell us about your background and you did before your studies at Centre for Commercial Law Studies?

My name is Aditi, and I am an international student from India undertaking my LLM at Queen Mary University of London. Before joining CCLS, I worked in contract law with a U.S. company in India. After over a year in that role, I pursued an LLM while continuing freelance work, pro bono projects, and animal advocacy through my initiative, Legal Paws, which seeks to provide legal protection for animals in need.

Why did you choose to study at CCLS?

I chose CCLS because of its exceptional faculty, which had come highly recommended by friends who studied here. From my first class in financial markets, led by an inspiring lecturer, I knew I was in the right place. It didn’t feel like I was just watching slides or preparing for exams; instead, I was learning through passionate storytelling and real-world analysis. In a common law reasoning class, we were tasked with analysing case studies, making the experience interactive and thought-provoking. Learning in India had been more linear, with a focus on memorising content, but CCLS operates at an entirely different level. This proactive approach to education has strengthened my resolve to use my grounding in finance law to drive meaningful policy change back in India.

How did you feel when you heard you got the funding and has it made an impact for you? If so, in what way?

When I received the scholarship, I was ecstatic. I had applied, but as time passed, I assumed I hadn’t been successful. When the news came, I couldn’t believe it—I was screaming with joy! This scholarship has been transformative. As an international student, the costs of living and studying in London are a significant challenge, and this support has provided the financial stability I needed to focus fully on my studies. It has given me a newfound confidence to consider my future plans, including the possibility of further study, maybe even a PhD.
