Profile

Victoria Derr, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Environmental Studies at California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB), where she leads the Environmental Education and Community Outreach Concentration.  For more than 30 years, Dr. Derr has engaged children, youth, and community members in community-based and participatory action research in both rural and urban settings of Mexico and the U.S., including with indigenous communities, Spanish land grant communities, and farm-working communities.  She primarily works through partnerships between universities, public schools, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations. Her current research and outreach is housed in the Engagement Lab at CSUMB and focuses on holistic frameworks that center community and children/youth voice, health, and relational knowing with nature.
