Professor Sionaidh Douglas-Scott, Anniversary Chair in Law and Co-Director at the Centre for Law and Society in a Global Context (CLSGC) at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), gave the keynote speech at the 'Law and Culture Conference 2016: (In)visibility', hosted by St Mary’s University. The conference discussed:
- Political and legal visibility, including political aesthetics and critical discourses on the recognition and legality of difference
- The unseen dimensions of law and its institution, including legal aesthetics, the (in)visibility of surveillance and security measures, and legal architecture
- Law’s regulation of visibility, including concerns of (il)legitimate or obscene visuality and the visibility of the body in law
- Law’s (in)visibility within culture, including video games, film, comics and literature
- Unseen legal histories, including overlooked regimes, laws and legal actors.
