Francesco Maria Betti

Research assistant

Francesco Betti is a Research Assistant at the Catholic University of Lille and a graduate student in Food Politics and Sustainable Development. He completed his undergraduate studies in Economics, Marketing, and Agricultural Sciences at the University of Bologna, Italy.

Departing from a personal background as a farmer, Francesco has built a strong interest in food sovereignty, land rights, land grabbing, and sustainable food systems. In his master's dissertation, Francesco investigates the relationship between the Paris Agreement and green grabbing, aiming to uncover how international climate policies shape corporate behaviours and land use practices. For his bachelor's dissertation, Francesco conducted a detailed study on land grabbing, examining the struggles for food sovereignty in Mozambique and Ethiopia, offering an in-depth analysis of how large-scale land acquisitions impact local communities and their access to resources.
