Senior Lecturer
Maisoon is a scientist with expertise in the structure and formation of hard tissues. She has developed novel techniques for studying enamel, dentine and bone structure and for growing synthetic biomimetic materials. She has successfully supervised and mentored several PhD students and postdocs.
Electronic Resources Manager
Ben has worked in IT and computing for over 15 years. His role within the SAT is to support the Institute’s website and use of technologies to promote Athena SWAN activities. In his spare time, he enjoys watching football, entering competitions, playing with his cat and going out to the pub with friends.
Senior Clinical Lecturer
Dr Berry rejoined the teaching staff in 2012 as a full-time member. He currently is the Clinical Academic Lead for Barkantine outreach clinic near Canary Wharf. In addition he is the Academic Lead for Student Support, Year 3 Undergraduate Curriculum Lead and Senior Admissions Tutor for the Institute.
Institutional Diversity & Inclusion Manager and also the Athena SWAN programme manager
Sandra joined the Institute of Dentistry’s SAT in December 2016 as support and adviser regarding Athena SWAN activities and procedures.
Senior Clinical Lecturer
Dominiki is the postgraduate director for specialty training in Periodontics. She has extensive experience in teaching and mentoring postgraduates, and is involved in research. She has lectured nationally and overseas. Her role is to help promote the Institute’s Athena SWAN activities.
Senior Lecturer & Director of Taught Programmes
Dr Cruchley is a non-clinical oral pathologist with over 30 years’ experience in teaching and research. He is the Director for Taught programmes within the Institute.
Clinical Lecturer
Cecilia studied dentistry in Peru and joined QMUL as a FT Clinical Lecturer in 2012 after completing a PhD here. She received the UNESCO-L’Oreal Fellowship for Women in Science in 2009-2011. She is committed to supporting the Institute to align to the Athena Swan ethos and has a role in the Action Plan.
Senior Quality Administrator & Curriculum Support (Clinical Years)
Lorraine has worked at QMUL from 2009 to 2015 as the Administrator for the Masters in Clinical Dentistry courses for Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics, then in 2015 took up her current post as Senior Quality Administrator & Curriculum Support (Clinical Years).
Clinical Senior Lecturer/Honorary Consultant in Dental Public Health
Dr Vanessa Muirhead has worked at the Institute of Dentistry since 2010 as a postdoctoral researcher, Clinical Lecturer and Clinical Senior Lecturer. She now leads the MSc in Dental Public Health course and the undergraduate Population Health and Evidence Based Dentistry theme at the dental school.
Diversity & Inclusion Officer
Temi is the institutional Diversity and Inclusion Officer. As part of her role, she supports and advises the Institute of Dentistry regarding Athena SWAN and broader Equality, Diversity and Inclusion issues and practices. She Joined the Institute of Dentistry SAT in August 2017.
Undergraduate Student
Kieran is a 3rd year undergraduate student representative. He is interested in the issue of inequality and strongly believes in opportunities for all sectors of people. He agrees with what the Athena Swan stands for, encouraging him to make a difference here at this university.
Alessia D’Onofrio
Research Assistant/ PG Student
Alessia is a second year PhD student and an MRC funded Research Assistant in the Institute of Dentistry. Her research area is on the development and pre-clinical characterization of novel bone substitutes materials for oral surgery and orthopaedic applications.
Dr Sharan Sidhu
Reader/Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry
Sharan has extensive clinical academic experience and also has an international research profile in adhesive dental materials. She leads on promoting Athena SWAN activities within the Institute and is the Staff Adviser of QMUL’s PhD student-led goup of women in the STEMM subjects, WISE@QMUL.
Professor Mangala Patel
SAT Chair/ Reader in Biomaterials in Relation to Dentistry and Senior Tutor
Mangala is a Dental Materials/Biomaterials Scientist with more than 20 years’ experience in research and teaching. She has successfully supervised several PhD students. A major part of her activities involve the pastoral care and welfare of students.
Dr. Paul Ryan
Academic Clinical Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry
Paul is an Academic Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Specialist Registrar in Restorative Dentistry. He is also a Specialist in Periodontology and is involved in clinical teaching and immunology research alongside completing his further Specialist training in Restorative dentistry.
Examinations and Assessment Manager
Ryan is passionate about the Athena Swan ethos of equality, progression and sucess for all. He has several years' experience in statistical and psychometrix analysis and is part of the data team.
Academic Clinical Lecturer/Specialty Registrar in Periodontology
Vanessa’s research is at the intersection of data synthesis and meta-analysis of oral health outcomes, clinical and translational science, periodontology, implantology, immunology and microbial ecology. She also teaches and has received multiple research prizes and scholarships.
Interim Institute Director/ Dean, Professor of Paediatric Dentistry
Ferranti has been working in the Institute of Dentisty for over 30 years. He first joined the school in 1986 as a postgraduate student, and was trained and developed into the present position. His previous roles include chair of the Dental Postgraduate Committee and Head of Centre for Oral Growth and Development.
