Professor Pine has undertaken and supported national and international developments and collaborations in dental research through her own research and through elected office as: the first woman President of the British Association for the Study of Community Dentistry (BASCD); as Secretary General and Co-President of the European Organisation of Caries Research (ORCA); as Founding President of the European Association of Dental Public Health (EADPH) and through the International Association of Dental Research (IADR) as President of the Cariology Group. She was appointed Dean of Dentistry at the University of Liverpool in 2003, the first woman ever to be appointed to head a Dental School in the UK. Her contribution to research, science and education has been recognised by several bodies including: the American Association of Public Health Dentistry: Special Merit Award for Outstanding Achievement in Community Dentistry – Internationalin 2005; by theGovernment of Guyana, her country of birth, in 2006, when she was named as Outstanding Guyanese of the Year; by the Queen when she was appointed CBE in 2006; by inclusion in the Powerlist of the UK’s 100 most influential people of African and Afro-Caribbean descent. Most recently, she has been appointed to Fellowship of the City and Guilds of London Institute in March, 2014.

Specialist Training in Dental Public Health

Professor Pine is on the GDC Specialist List in Dental Public Health and was first appointed Consultant in 1993. She has been involved in training and specialist public health duties since then as both an Honorary Consultant in Dental Public Health and as a substantive Consultant within the NHS, and latterly as Honorary Academic Consultant to Public Health England. Currently, she is the Lead Academic Trainer for the NIHR Speciality Registrar in Dental Public Health established at the Institute of Dentistry with the London Deanery.
