Profile

Haifa is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in AI for Environment & Sustainability at the Digital Environment Research Institute (DERI). She completed her PhD in geophysics at Imperial College London, where her thesis focused on computational methods including spectral analysis methods for seismic data processing and subsurface characterisation. Following her PhD, she applied computer vision and machine learning techniques to the analysis and interpretation of subsurface geophysical data.

Now part of Professor John’s research group at DERI, which leverages digital technologies to address environmental and sustainability challenges, Haifa’s work centres on computer vision, deep learning, and computational geophysics. Her expertise in these areas will be applied to processing subsurface seismic images, including tasks such as denoising and enhancing resolution. Her work holds significant potential for improving the exploration of sustainable energy sources, such as geothermal energy, and for deepening our understanding of the planet’s history of climate change and sea-level variations, while also supporting decarbonisation efforts through advancements in hydrothermal and hydrogen energy technologies
