Title: Accelerated Discovery for Sustainable Materials

Abstract: The world is changing rapidly, with new threats and opportunities emerging on a regular basis.  Our ability to respond quickly to these, and to harness the powerful potential of the scientific method enhanced with a broad range of computational techniques, is increasingly important. We don’t have the luxury of time that we used to, and trying to solve these problems with traditional methods won’t cut it anymore. At IBM Research, we’re combining our expertise in quantum computing, AI, and hybrid cloud to drastically increase how quickly we can discover solutions to tackle today’s most urgent problems. In this talk I will cover some of the Accelerated Discovery techniques we are using to aid in our quest to advance capabilities related to sustainable materials, and some of the key use cases that are driving our thinking.  This talk will cover technologies such as foundation models for materials and chemistry, the role of agentic solutions to rapidly assemble custom solutions, and our work with the AI Alliance to advance open-source science as part of a global community effort, including local efforts being delivered directly from the IBM Research UK team.
