"Keep up the good work and I will always recommend students to the service"

"The advisers are well spoken, polite and happy to help.   I couldn't ask for more."

"I find Sadie extremely cheerful everytime I come for my appointment or a quick request.  And Ashley rocks!"

Testimonials

“access to the assistive technology rooms has been very helpful and much appreciated!”

“The mentoring has really helped me getting back on my feet, becoming less stressed and instead organised and ahead of my work. Every time I see my mentor I'm ill at ease but I always leave a lot lighter. It has really helped me to get my confidence back and I always feel welcome and nothing is too little or unimportant to ask about.”

“I would like to thank you and the whole department for your help and support. Your help made my studies bearable, so thank you.”

“Many thanks to both of you, who are both shining stars who work very hard, so please do continue to shine, I really appreciate your excellent work :)”

“For the disability department, and in particular the loyal encouragement of Paul Jarman, I owe a particular thank you. For my support workers who assisted the job of getting this work onto paper, thank you for your patience and commitment.”

“I really wished I had discovered this service earlier.  I have found mentoring helpful for the following reasons:

  1. Regular weekly meetings with someone who's actually interested in helping you achieve your goals.
  2. Help to set goals and breakdown tasks that otherwise seem insurmountable
  3. Building a nice and confidential relationship with a professional that keeps you motivated, because they try hard to help you and show concern so you want to make them happy by achieving more
  4. Good practical advice regarding studying skills and any problems affecting ability to study.

Thank you for helping me out so much through this service.”

“During the time that I have spent at Queen Mary so far, I am unable to fault the Disability and Dyslexia Service on the support that has been offered to me.  Before my arrival at the university, every measure possible was put in place to ensure that my time here would be as comfortable, accessible and worry-free as possible.  My bedroom has all the required facilities, including a spacious wet room and shelves at a lowered height, as I am a wheelchair user.  Additionally, the Service took great care in order to ensure that all my lectures and classes were in rooms that are easily accessible for a wheelchair user.

Any issues or problems I have encountered since then (which, undeniably, have been very few seeing as the Service is so thorough when assessing the needs of students) I have been able to contact my advisors, as they are only an email or a phone call away. The staff are also more than happy to provide a helping hand to students if they are having trouble filling in financial forms, or they are not getting the financial funding that they deserve.

For me, it hasn’t just been a case of what the DDS can do for me.  I have done some disability ambassador work on campus, which includes showing disabled prospective students around and telling them of my experiences, here at QM.  It’s great to be able to encourage people that are thinking about university that they should just go for it, and that nothing is impossible with some determination, and the support of this fantastic Service.”

“Thanks for all the effort you put into arranging the transcribing - I ended up coming in the top 10% of the year for finals (earning me a nice distinction on my degree) so they were obviously a huge help!”

“Thanks for the equipment. The laptop and other things go quite well. These help me a lot to continue my studies.”

“I really appreciate what you have done for me today and I am going to contact you if I have further questions, thank you very much for your help.”
