A PhD builds the perfect foundation for becoming self-employed, whether this is starting up a business or providing a service. The ability to motivate oneself, be resilient and research new areas are all vital skills for self-employment. We would like to inspire you to explore self-employment further, either as a short-term option or as a future venture!
With this in mind, we have a range of speakers coming to share their journeys with you. Some of our speakers have started up their own business, in areas that relate to their research, or they may provide a service to other organisations, harnessing the skills gained from their PhD. Here is who we have so far:
The event will start at 18.00, with a 20 minute talk from Miriam Irungu who advises students at QMUL on how to start up their own business. She will provide an overview of the support and funding that QMUL offer. We will then have 10 minute talks from our panel where they will share their journeys.
