What’s required?We are looking for supervisors who can provide a student with a research project that is based on real life research questions. Whilst supportive supervision is important, the students are encouraged to use their own initiative. The placement may be a stand-alone project or may form part of a larger project; however, it must be achievable within a 2-3 week period. Who are the students?We select able students who have just finished their first year of A levels, and are about to make their university choices. STEM Learning is committed to addressing the socioeconomic gap among talented students and so the focus of the scheme is on recruiting students from traditional widening participation backgrounds i.e. they are from low income backgrounds or will be the first in theirfamily to attend university. The students are reimbursed their travel expenses and in most cases also paid a weekly allowance from the Nuffield Foundation and therefore there is no direct cost implication.
