Cumberland Lodge, the charity that empowers people, through dialogue and debate, to tackle the causes and effects of social division, is preparing to launch its 2019 report on Race in Britain: Inequality, Identity & Belonging. This marks the culmination of a 12-month project run in partnership with the Runnymede Trust.

This Cumberland Lodge Report explores the complex ways in which inequality, identity and belonging intersect with race in Britain today. It draws on the wisdom and experience of an interdisciplinary representation of academics, policymakers, business leaders, NGOs, community practitioners and activists, and young people, from across the UK.
Our report summarises key themes and best-practice recommendations that emerged from our independent research and a roundtable conference held at Cumberland Lodge in November 2018. These ideas were reviewed and refined at a consultation we convened with conference representatives and further specialists in May 2019.
Race in Britain: Inequality, Identity & Belonging offers a unique, cross-sector insight into race in Britain today. It presents a series of practical, policy-focused recommendations for achieving positive social change. Its author is Cumberland Lodge freelance research associate Dr Farhan Samanani, from the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religion and Ethnic Diversity, Göttingen, Germany.
We will be welcoming an expert panel of speakers to share their thoughts on the report and take part in a Q&A session. This will be followed by a drinks reception for all guests. The event will begin at 6pm and end by 8pm. The dress code is smart.
Cumberland Lodge was founded in Windsor Great Park in 1947. We convene multi-sector conferences, panel debates and retreats that engage people of all ages, backgrounds and perspectives in candid conversations on pressing societal and ethical issues.
We commission rigorous, interdisciplinary research to guide these conversations, and we refine key themes of discussion into practical, policy-focused recommendations. In this way, we improve public awareness and understanding, and incubate fresh ideas that promote progress towards more peaceful, open and inclusive societies.
