What is the Three Minute Thesis?
The Three Minute Thesis – better known as 3MT – was originally developed by the University of Queensland. The UK’s national competition, run by Vitae, challenges doctoral students to present their research to a non-specialist audience in only three minutes using a single slide, no jargon and no props.
The purpose is to tell an entertaining research story to a wider audience – to teach you something in an interesting and engaging way.
Watch and vote from Monday 7 April!
Our online competition runs from Monday 7 April to Friday 11 April 2025. Twelve Queen Mary PGRs have delivered some fantastic presentations, which you’ll be able to view on QMPlus starting on 7 April. Voting will be open from Monday, 7 April until 12pm on Friday, 11 April, so please do support your favourite presenter!
In the meantime, you can watch our 2024 online competition presenters on QMPlus.
The online competition has two sets of awards:
- Faculty Finalists: Our panel of expert judges will select one to two presenters per faculty to present at Queen Mary’s internal 3MT finalist competition, which will be held in-person on 15 May – stay tuned for more details about this!
- People’s Choice: Your vote will help determine our People’s Choice winner – the most popular presentation as judged by the audience. Vote via our 3MT QMPlus page.
