Funding

Internal Funding opportunities for current students

There are numerous funding opportunities for current students at Queen Mary. There are two Queen Mary funds that are open to all our postgraduate research students: the Queen Mary Doctoral College Initiative Fund (DCIF) and the Queen Mary Postgraduate Research Fund (PGRF). Many schools and institutes also offer a range of extra funding to their students so make sure you check your school/institute’s website for further information.

Students from the School of Medicine and Dentistry can also apply to the School’s Travel Fund for PhD Students and Postdoctoral Researchers. Awards are available to contribute to the travel costs of postgraduate research students attending conferences and courses.

External Funding opportunities for current students

The Doctoral College strongly recommends that you explore other external sources of funding as well as those offered by the College. Queen Mary holds subscriptions to both The Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding and Research Professional.

The Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding details how to find and apply to alternative sources of funding – especially charities – which make awards to current and prospective graduate students. Charities are an underrated funding resource, and often make awards to students of any subject and any nationality.

Research Professional is a portal of international research and policy information, as well as one of the most comprehensive research funding databases available.

Learned Societies also offer their members a range of funding opportunities too.
