Students from the Joint Programme (JP) between QM and the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) are visiting London this summer
Two groups of EECS students, based in Beijing on the Joint Programme (JP) between QM and the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT), are visiting London this summer. One group comprises nine year 2 students,the winners of a fiercely fought annual competition for a fully funded trip to QM. For selection, the students have to make individual and group presentations to a panel of judges. During their visit they will experience the QM campus, go sightseeing (including to Bletchley Park, shown above) and will visiti the IET (the JP programmes are IET accredited so all JP students are IET members).
The other group comprises six top students from Year 3. Students with the highest grades in year 3 are selected for interview for the opportunity to work with QM staff on engineering research projects. These projects will be developed further by the students during their final year. One of the criteria for the summer projects is that the students must develop at least one conference paper from this work. Last year a group who followed the summer project in London presented their work at an international Internet of Things (IoT) conference in Wuxi, China (the only undergraduates to do so). Examples of projects this year are “RFID location fingerprinting for IoT applications”, “Efficient intrusion detection for IoT applications” and “Energy efficient small cell deployment optimisation for 5G wireless networks”.
