Leading global IT services, consulting and business solutions organisation, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has made a generous gift in support of undergraduate students of Computer Science at Queen Mary, University of London.

The significant donation from Tata Consultancy Services will be used to establish the Tata Consultancy Services Digital Explorers Bursary, a new programme of twenty scholarships that will offer support to students from low income households, and female students, who are under-represented in the field of computer science compared to men by a margin of three to one[1].
The Tata Consultancy Services Digital Explorers Bursary will be awarded to ten female students of the BSc in Computer Science and ten students of the BSc in Computer Science who come from low income households during the academic year 2020/2021. The bursary will cover half the cost of the first year tuition fee for each student.
Isobel Bates, Institute of Coding (IoC) Programme Manager at Queen Mary, said: "We’re delighted to receive such a significant gift from TCS. By removing some of the financial barriers that prevent people from applying to university, we hope to build a community of computer scientists for the future at the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary where everyone can participate and thrive - irrespective of their backgrounds.”

The TCS Digital Explorers Bursary builds on Queen Mary’s much valued partnership with TCS that has developed over recent years. During this time, TCS has supported Queen Mary in the development of a successful new Degree Apprenticeship programme specialising in Data Analytics that launched in 2019, and provided industrial board representation and guest speakers for events.
