Cyber security in-the-wild

Supervisor: Dr Gareth Tyson

Research group(s): Networks

Cyber security is one of the greatest challenges facing modern society. Major security/privacy issues are reported nearly everyday. Understanding (and predicting) these security issues is a critical part of their subsequent mitigation. This project will involve two key themes: (1) Measuring the presence and severity of a given security and/or data privacy challenge; (2) Devising detection and mitigation solutions that can be deployed to address the challenge. The exact nature of the challenge under-study is flexible, however, examples might include vulnerabilities in web systems, network protocols and IoT devices.
