Law, Labour, and the Economy in the 19th Century

The School of Law and School of History at Queen Mary University of London are delighted to be collaborating for this special event on 'Law, Labour, and the Economy in the 19th Century.'
The speakers are:
- Jonathan Connolly (University of Illinois Chicago) who has recently published a book on indentured labour in the Atlantic World.
- Bronwen Everill (Cambridge) who works on comparative economic cultures and has recently published Not Made by Slaves: Ethical Capitalism in the Age of Abolition.
- Erik Mathisen (Kent) who is working on a book on free labour in the Atlantic World.
Commentary by Miles Ogborn.
The format will be 15-20 mins presentations by each of the speakers, and then a 10 min commentary, followed by a general discussion.
The event is organised by Jo Cohen (History) and Maksymilian Del Mar (Law).
